Baby and toddler swimming lessons in Dubai

A parent gets in the water too. Rehan builds comfort before anything else, then adds the first real swimming skills.

Baby & Toddler in Dubai: the short answer

Rehan Ahmad teaches private baby and toddler swimming lessons in Dubai from six months old, with a parent in the water for the whole lesson. Lessons run a full hour at the family's own pool anywhere in Dubai and cost from AED 125 each in the eight-lesson pack. The focus is water comfort first, then blowing bubbles, assisted floating, kicking and early submersions.

What the swimmer learns

  • Water comfort and acclimation
  • Assisted floating and kicking
  • Bubble blowing and first submersions
  • Parent and child bonding

A parent is in the water for every lesson

For babies and toddlers, one parent or carer swims with the child for the whole hour. That is not a formality. At this age the child learns from being held securely by someone they trust, and the parent learns the holds and cues that make practice between lessons safe and consistent.

Rehan coaches the parent as much as the child. By the end of the first block most parents can run a short, confident practice session on their own in the family pool.

Comfort comes before skills

A toddler who is tense in the water will not learn to float, however good the drill is. The first lessons are about getting the child relaxed: sitting on the step, pouring water, being walked through the pool, then held on their back with their ears in the water.

Only once that is settled does Rehan move to bubbles, assisted floating, kicking and short, calm submersions. Nobody is dropped in, and nothing is forced.

What a baby or toddler actually learns

Across a block of lessons, the skills build in this order.

  • Being comfortable and relaxed in the water, held and unheld
  • Blowing bubbles and getting the face wet without distress
  • Assisted front and back floating, with the head supported
  • Kicking with support, then with a noodle or kickboard
  • Short, controlled submersions once the child is ready for them
  • Turning back to the wall and holding on, the first self-rescue skill

Why the private format suits this age

Babies and toddlers do not run to a timetable. Some days a child is happy from the first minute and some days the first ten minutes are spent on the step. A private lesson absorbs that without holding anyone else up.

It also means the lesson happens in the pool the child already knows, at the hour they are least likely to be tired or hungry, which matters more at this age than at any other.

Water temperature and lesson length

Young children lose heat quickly, so the water matters. The American Academy of Pediatrics advises that water for swim classes for children aged three and under should be heated to between 87 and 94 degrees Fahrenheit, which is roughly 30.5 to 34.4 degrees Celsius.

Rehan will tell you honestly if your pool is too cool for a full hour with a baby, and will shorten the time in the water accordingly rather than push through it. Many Dubai villa and community pools can be warmed, so it is worth asking your pool maintenance company or building team.

Questions parents ask about baby & toddler

What age can a baby start swimming lessons in Dubai?

Rehan Ahmad teaches babies in Dubai from six months old, with a parent in the water. The American Academy of Pediatrics notes there is no evidence that formal swim programmes for infants under one year reduce drowning risk, so lessons at this age are about water comfort, parent handling skills and enjoyment rather than teaching a baby to swim independently.

Does a parent have to get in the pool?

Yes, for the baby and toddler program one parent or carer is in the water for the full hour. The child learns while being held by someone they trust, and the parent learns the holds, the cues and the safe practice routine to use between lessons.

Will my toddler be put underwater?

Only when the child is ready, and never as a surprise. Submersions are short, calm and always signalled first, and they come after the child is comfortable blowing bubbles and getting their face wet. If a child is not ready in a given lesson, Rehan does not force it.

How much do baby swimming lessons cost in Dubai?

A single one-hour private lesson is AED 200. The four-lesson pack is AED 600, which works out at AED 150 a lesson, and the eight-lesson pack is AED 1,000, or AED 125 a lesson. Teaching equipment is included. Travel to your pool, and the cost of any pool Rehan arranges, are charged on top and confirmed before you book.
